In 2018, in partnership with the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA), The Learning Collective advised the New York State Education Department’s Charter School Office (NYSED CSO) on revising its site visit processes and feedback mechanisms with schools to maximize transparency, consistency, and timely access to feedback and support. Based on extensive interviews and document reviews, we presented our recommendations in three categories: practices to continue, short-term recommendations and long-term recommendations, as well as some preliminary template revisions. NYSED CSO noted our feedback was instrumental in helping prioritize which areas to address first and how to implement change.
Additionally, throughout 2018 and 2019 The Learning Collective participated in a lead writer role on numerous mid-term and renewal site visits and reviewed several applications for new schools. We look forward to continuing our partnership in 2020!
